Restaurants & Dining in Graz

Restaurants in Graz – the culinary capital

Backhendl, pumpkin seed oil and Southern Styrian wine: Graz is Austria’s culinary capital. We’re right in the middle of it – and the first tip starts in our own house.

Where’s the best place to eat in Graz?

Graz carries the title “culinary capital” for good reason: short distances from field to plate, a farmers’ market at Kaiser-Josef-Platz and a density of great places to eat that’s hard to match. The menus feature Styrian classics like Backhendl, bean salad and Brettljause platters – refined with pumpkin seed oil and paired with Southern Styrian wine.

The liveliest restaurant quarters are central: around Hauptplatz and Herrengasse in the old town, and the trendy Lendplatz with its young scene. From award-winning kitchens to rustic Buschenschank taverns, it’s all here – and within walking distance or a few minutes from our houses.

And the enjoyment starts with us: at Hotel Schachenwald we cook regionally in our own restaurant, and at the sHome Hotel there’s the street food bar “sHome Bistro & Bar”. So you can start the day well fortified – or wind it down in a relaxed way.
